Space pooch
Pupils at one primary school sent a toy dog into the atmosphere as part of a science project. The kids managed to send Sam the Dog up into the sky by attaching him to a helium balloon. The helium balloon worked because helium is lighter than air. Sam flew up to 15 miles above the ground before the balloon burst and he fell back to Earth along with his space equipment. The school found the space equipment using a Global Positioning System (GPS) tracker, but, alas, Sam is nowhere to be found.
Sadly, Sam did not reach the edge of space, which is 62 miles above the ground.
